Darius Goes West:
Accompanied by his eleven best friends, Darius Weems, a fifteen-year-old living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), leaves home for the first time in his life. The rowdy crew sets a course for California where they hope to convince MTV to customize Darius's wheelchair on the hit show, Pimp My Ride. Darius Goes West has been enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people of all ages all around the world.

Georgia Council on Developmental DisabilityThe mission of the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities is "to collaborate with Georgia citizens, public and private advocacy organizations, and policy makers to positively influence public policies that enhance the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities and their families. The Council provides collaboration through information and advocacy activities, program implementation and funding, and public policy analysis and research.
Legislation:
Safe Schools Initiative Georgia Advocacy Office, in collaboration with Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities, Center for Leadership in Disability at Georgia State University, Institute on Human Development and Disability at the University of Georgia, and Parent to Parent of Georgia, urges the Georgia State Board of Education to promulgate a rule that protects all Georgia students from restraint and seclusion and which encourages the proactive use of Positive Behavior Supports in Georgia public schools. Georgia Department of Education has heeded the call of advocates to regulate the State’s dangerous practice of restraint and seclusion by preparing for rule initiation.We applaud the Department’s decision to address this issue through the development of a rule. This is a good start, but more work is needed. The coalition urges the public to join us in insisting that the rule prohibits the use of seclusion and adversives, clarifies and strengthens the training requirements for school personnel, provides enhanced safeguards for students who experience prolonged restraint, and creates enforcement and reporting mechanisms.
