| Meet The Staff
Derona King Coordinator
Derona came to citizen advocacy in 1993 as the associate coordinator with Atlanta Citizen Advocacy. After taking time off to home-educate her three children, she has returned to Citizen Advocacy as lead coordinator of Citizen Advocacy of Atlanta & DeKalb.
She brings to this work a commitment and passion that is born out her Christian faith. Derona views Citizen Advocacy as a very practical way to live out the ideals echoed by Jesus of “Loving our neighbor as ourselves.” He taught that each of us has a personal responsibility for our neighbor’s well-being and should respond out of that sense of responsibility to address our neighbor’s needs, not superficially, but as a genuine act of selfless sacrifice.
Derona’s other passions are Carl, her husband of twenty-eight years, and their three children Jazmine, Jane, and Jacob.
Rachel OwensOffice Manager/Associate Coordinator
Rachel Owens has been with Citizen Advocacy of Atlanta & DeKalb since January 2010. She brings her enthusiastic attitude, hard work ethic, compassion, empathy and creative thinking to her job. She believes that is is better for all of us when there are people in our lives who know and care about us. The beloved community can be created when a community accepts and supports the gifts and capacities of all people.
Rachel is also passionate about human and civil rights, anti-bullying and preventing homelessness. She enjoys playing softball, listening to and making music, and spending time with her family.
