Derona King
Coordinator

Derona came to citizen advocacy in 1993 as the associate coordinator with Atlanta Citizen Advocacy. After taking time off to home-educate her three children, she has returned to citizen advocacy as lead coordinator of Citizen Advocacy of Atlanta & DeKalb.

She brings to this work a commitment and passion that is born out her Christian faith. Derona views Citizen Advocacy as a very practical way to live out the ideals echoed by Jesus of “Loving our neighbor as ourselves.” He taught that each of us has a personal responsibility for our neighbor’s well-being and should respond out of that sense of responsibility to address our neighbor’s needs, not superficially, but as a genuine act of selfless sacrifice.

Derona’s other passions are Carl, her husband of twenty-five years, and their three children Jazmine, Jane, and Jacob.

Judy Maddox
Associate Coordinator

Judy has recently celebrated fifteen years of commitment to Citizen Advocacy. She has served in various capacities as a staff person and is now proud to be involved in the core role of creating and supporting Citizen Advocacy relationships as the associate coordinator. Her hard work and dedication has been a key ingredient to the success of the DeKalb and Atlanta programs.

Judy has been married to Bob for thirty-six years and they are long time residents of DeKalb County. Canadian born, her entire life has been about serving others. Judy grew up learning to care for people who are elderly, and worked for a short time as a bank teller. Prior to Citizen Advocacy, Judy spent over 25 years as a Flight Attendant with Eastern Airlines.

Judy has always felt that everybody is important and has a story to tell. She believes Citizen Advocacy provides a way to tell the stories of those individuals whose stories are least likely to be told.
